David, Rupali and Pasang Tamang are children of Butti and Karchung Tamang, once residents of Rasuwa district. They lost their father when David was six years old and was just enrolled into a local government school. After his father's demise, he was not able to continue his studies. Sadly, their mother also abandoned them and ran away with another man. There is no information on her whereabouts so far. All three orphans, David, Rupali, and Pasang have been taken in by Happy Home orphanage. All three of them now attend Shining Stars English School in Kupandol.

Durga and her sister Puspa are from Bhojpur District, in the Eastern Nepal. They do not know whereabouts of their parents. They were found working at a construction site in Kathmandu as child laborers by Happy Home officials who rescued them after a short unpleasant discussion with the contractors. Now, they are happily living at the orphanage and enrolled into Shining Stars English School in Kupandol.

Manisha's father died when she was only three years old. Her mother left her with her grandmother in Gorkha village. Her mother's whereabouts are unknown today, but she is assumed to be married again. In the Gorkha village Manisha could not go to school. Now she is living in Happy Home orphanage and attends Shining Stars English School in Kupandol.

Sunita's and Sushil's father is missing today. He is believed to have died during Nepal's long civil war, when Sushil was just born and Sunita three years old. Their mother is physically and mentally disabled and not able to take care of her children. For some time both have been living in Happy Home Hostel and attend Shining Stars English School in Kupandol.

Ram, Bishant and Pema are from Yarsa-08, Rasuwa, a remote district of Nepal. Their mother couldn't get proper medication due to the poverty and she died in April 2007. Bishant was only eight months old then. Pamo, their father, married another woman after the untimely demise of his wife. The new mother did not want to keep the children in the house and so Ram and Pema were sent as helpers to look after cattle while Bishant was left to his grandparents. Being very poor and old, their grandparents could not look after them and so the children were left with no other choice than to live in the street. Now all of them are being looked after by Happy Home.

Sangita is from Gimdi VDC-06, Lalitpur. Her father died of bad drinking habits and her mother ran away with another man leaving 4 year old Sangita alone. Sangita took shelter at her relatives and worked as a domestic help for more than three years. Happy Home rescued her and now she is living at the orphanage with other children who share the common pain of being orphaned and abandoned. She is in grade two at Shining Stars English School in Kupandol.

Ashok is one of the poor street children from Pokhara. He has been enrolled into the Happy Home orphanage after receiving two months of treatment in the hospital. He is now living a normal life with a group of children who have had similar pains from the past. He wants to be a doctor in the future.

Laxmi is from Sakha VDC-08, Syanja, near Pokhara. Her mother left her when she was three years old. Her father also has remarried. Her new mother used to beat her badly and did not like Laxmi going to school. When Happy Home officials found her she had wounds and cuts all over her body and head. The officials found out that she had been attacked with a sharp knife. She was rescued and enrolled in the Happy Home orphanage. Now she is attending Shining Stars English School in Kupandol.

Srijana is from Kalleri VDC-04, Dhading. Her father died when she was only six years old. Her mother could not work as she is suffering from paralysis. She has one elder sister who looks after her mother. Due to their extreme poverty she was not attending school. Now she is living in Happy Home and is enrolled to Shining Stars English School in Kupandol from where she is starting her education and looking forward to a bright future.

Sushila is from the Rasuwa district. She is the fourth child of altogether six children of her parents. Their house was swept away by a massive landslide that hit their village in the Rasuwa district a few years back. Now the village lacks even basic infrastructures like school, hospital, electricity etc. Her elder brother died of an illness, which could have been cured had he got timely treatment. Her other two brothers and two sisters do not go to school owing to her parents' poor financial condition. At the request of her parents, she is now being looked after by Happy Home.

Pemba hails from Makalu, Sankhuwasabha. He is the youngest child among five brothers and sisters. He lost his father when he was just born. His brothers and sisters could not go to school because of poverty. When his mother remarried she abandoned him and he became helpless. Now, he is enrolled in Happy Home and his basic needs are being taken care of. He wants to be a teacher when he grows up.

Chhyangjung, a little girl of 7 is one of the street girls rescued from Balaju bus park area in Kathmandu. According to Chhyangjung, her mother brought her to Kathmandu when she was just 3 years old. Her mother raised Chhyangjung for sometimes by working in restaurants but later she handed over her responsibilities to her relatives and ran away with another man. Chhyangjung stayed with the relative for a few months but could not cope with the daily chores and beating finally she landed in the streets of Kathmandu. The bad luck did follow her even in the street and a car driven by a drunken driver ran over her leg and left her limping. Happy Home rescued her from the bus park area and is giving her necessary care and love at the orphanage.

Mingmar hails from Rasuwa district. Her mother died when she was just born and her father tied the knot with another woman. The new mother did not like Mingmar and sent to her grandfather. She used to go to a local government school but when she grew up she has to do the daily chores from morning to evening. She is 8 years old now and has been enrolled to the Happy Home orphanage where she is being taken care of all her basic needs including health and education.

Tek Maya grew up in and around Pasupatinath area, sniffing glue and abusing cheap and dangerous drugs. Later she had migrated to Bouddhanath area with her few friends two years back. Happy Home rescued her from the Bouddhanath area and got her enrolled into the orphanage. Now, she is almost recovered and is looking forward to spending a normal life. She goes to kindergarten school.
