DONATING AND SPONSORING

We are sincerely grateful to all the individual sponsors that have supported Happy Home thus far. We wouldn't be where we are without your generous contributions. However we are still in desperate need of public and international support in any form. You could either support us with donations, in cash as well as in kind or provide individual sponsorship to a child in our care.

1. Donations in kind

These donations can consist of practically everything: Clothing (all ages), medical supplies, toys, pencils and educational materials and even the simplest of things which we all take for granted (like soap, a face cloth or a toothbrush) are of special importance for our children. You can of course donate secondhand items which are in good condition. Due to the distances between our countries and the costs incurred in sending packages between them, we strongly advise you to make contact with us so that we can offer you advice on sending large items to us. Please avoid sending items which are perishable. It is best if you plan to visit Nepal that you bring the items with you.

If you are planning on visiting Kathmandu you can (as a few of our individual sponsors have already done) fill up a box with your unwanted items and bring them to our orphanage in person. We are always looking for people to help around the orphanage, whether it's teaching - the English language, science or math - to simply brushing up on basic Hygiene or simply interacting with the children in group play or one to one reading. The precious time you offer will be most rewarding for the staff, the children and most of all yourself.

2. Donations in cash

Maybe you want to make a contribution to our orphanage on a regular basis or as one monetary donation. Even if you can only spare a very small amount it would be valued and appreciated, as every cent we receive add up to a dollar, each dollar we raise can provide a child with nutritious meals of rice, vegetables and protein for a few days.

Donating is easy and can be made in any currency. Donations are transferred to our Nepal registered charities bank account. Our account was set up as we found it has the least service charges and ensures the funds you send to us are benefiting the child you are sponsoring. We ensure everything received is invested wisely in providing a secure future for our children. Some of our children came to us direct from the closure of other orphanages. With our team of financial accountants in Nepal, we monitor where and on what the funds are being spent. We are working to ensure Happy Home will never become a casualty of bad management by misappropriation of donated funds.

3. Sponsoring

For individuals, groups or corporations wishing to look into sponsoring a child, Happy Home offers two sponsorship options.

a) Category 'educational support': Costing USD $100 per child per year

Within this category of sponsorship, you provide the opportunity for a child to study in a local government school in his / her home town in Nepal. The government owned schools - like the private ones - charge fees for admission, tuition and examinations. In addition, the child's guardians/families have to buy: uniforms, all text books, stationary supplies and other necessary materials at their expense. This category of sponsorship basically targets children, who are staying with their parents or other guardians that are not currently attending school due to the inability of their parents/guardians to raise the necessary funds to send them to school. Children from poor rural communities and shanty towns around the cities, children of scheduled caste or discriminated minorities as well as child laborers can greatly benefit from this type of sponsorship. Educating these children will help break the cycle of poverty which many of these families find themselves trapped in. In one single generation we can help taise families currently trapped in a life of poverty up to a higher standard of living, simply by educating one child we can change the lives of generations to come by giving them hope for a brighter future.

b) Category 'full scholarship': USD $320 per child per year

This category of sponsorship covers everything a child needs. It includes accommodation in our Happy Home orphanage, the best education available provided by a private school which teaches mainly in English in nearby Kathmandu. All school text books, uniforms and stationary required for attending such schools.

At Happy Home, the child is provided with secure shelter, their own bed, three meals a day and clothing, and lives amongst children from a background which is similar to their own. Orphaned, abandoned, homeless, abused and enslaved children (forced child laborers) will benefit from this category of support.

Should you decide not to opt for either of the two suggested categories, yet you'd prefer to contribute a smaller regular amount, this can easily be arranged. Several separate sponsors can share the sponsorship of one individual child.

Happy Home will (and does) guarantee that the funds we receive are spent solely on caring for the everyday needs of our children. With a long term view in mind, we are making plans now for our eldest orphans. Once they have graduated from school (in 3 years) we will ensure that further professional career training will be given to them so that they can leave the orphanage with a career in hand and a positive future ahead. Already one of our youngest girls has expressed a wish to become a teacher when she grows up. We will ensure that we will do all we can to help make that dream a reality for her.
