Orphelins

David, Rupali and Pasang Tamang are children of Butti and Karchung Tamang, once residents of Rasuwa district. They lost their father when David was six years old and was just enrolled into a local government school. After his father’s demise, he was not able to continue his studies. Sadly, their mother also abandoned them and ran away with another man. There is no information on her whereabouts so far. All three orphans; David, Rupali, and Pasang have been taken in by Happy Home orphanage. All three of them attend Aditya English School in Kathmandu now.

Durga and her sister Puspha are from Bhojpur District, in the Eastern Nepal. They do not know whereabouts of their parents. They were found working at a construction site in Kathmandu as child laborers by Happy Home officials who rescued them after a short unpleasant discussion with the contractors. Now, they are happily living at the orphanage and enrolled into Aditya English School in Kathmandu.

Le père de manisha est mort alors qu'elle n'avait que trois ans. Sa mère l'a abandonnée à sa grand-mère, au village de Gorkha. Il n'y a aucune trace de sa mère, mais elle est supposée s'être remariée aujourd'hui. Au village de Gorkha Manisha ne pourrait pas aller à l'école. Aujourd'hui, elle vit a Happy Home Hostel, et est scolarisée dans une école privée,à proximité du pensionnat.

Le père de Sunita's et Sushil est aujourd'hui absent. Il est probable qu'il soit décédé durant la longue guerre civile au Nepal, alors que Sushil venait de naitre; Sunita avait seulement trois ans. Leur mère, physiquement et mentalement handicapée, est dans l'incapacité de prendre soin de ses enfants. Pendant un certain temps, tous deux ont vécu à Happy Home Hostel et ont été scolarisés à proximité du pensionnat.

Ram and Bishant are from Yarsa-08, Rasuwa, a remote district of Nepal. Their mother couldn't get proper medication due to the poverty and she died on April 26, 2007. Bishant was only eight months old then. Pamo, their father, married another woman after untimely demise of his wife. The new mother of Ram and Bishant doesn't like to keep them with her so Ram was sent as a helper to look after cattle and Bishant was left to grandparents. Being very poor and old, grandparents couldn't look after them both of them have not choice other than the street. Now both of them are being looked after by Happy Home.

Sangita is from Gimdi VDC-06, Lalitpur. Her father died of bad drinking habits and Her mother ran away with another man leaving 4 -year old Sangita alone. Sangita took shelter at her relatives and work as a domestic help for more than three years. Happy Home rescued her and now she is living at the orphanage with other children who share the common pain of being orphaned and abandoned. She is enrolled at nursery level in Aditya English School.

Rohit doesn’t know about his father. His father left him when he was just born. Because of domestic violence his mother came to Kathmandu for survival. But later on she was involved in prostitution and she didn’t look after Rohit. He was looked after by a family for sometime but now he is enrolled to Happy Home.

Laxmi is from Sakha VDC-08, Syanja, near Pokhara. Her mother left her when she was three years old. Her father also has remarried. Her new mother used to beat her badly and did not like Laxmi go to school. When happy home officials found her she had wounds and cuts all over her body and head. The officials found out that she was attached with a sharp knife. She was rescued and enrolled her in the Happy Home orphanage. Now she is attending a private school nearby the orphanage.

Srijana is from Kalleri VDC-04, Dhading. Her father died when she was only six years old. Her mother couldn't work as she is suffering from paralysis. She has one elder sister who looks after her mother. Due to the extremely poor condition she was not attending the school. Now she is living in Happy Home and is enrolled to private school from where she is starting her education and looking forward to her bright future.

Mandira is from Kathajor VDC-05, Ramechhap. She doesn't know anything about her mother. When her father left her she started to live with her grandparents. Her grandparents were also too old so she started to work when she was six years old as a child labor. Happy Home official rescued her and enrolled to Happy Home orphanage. Now she is admitted to Senior Kindergarten at a private school. She wants to study and want to be a good person in near future.

Sushila is from Rasuwa District. She is the fourth child, of altogether six children of her parents. Their house was swept away by a massive landslide that hit their village in Rasuwa district, few years back. Now the village lacks even basic infrastructures like school, hospital, electricity etc. Her elder brother died of an illness, which could have been cured, had he got timely treatment. Other two brothers and two sisters do not go to school owing to her parents’ poor financial condition. At the request of her parents, now she is being looked after by Happy Home.

Nisha is a girl from schedule- caste family who, earlier, has been supported by Happy Home under project B. She gave birth to one child when she was 13. Her son died after few days because of poverty. After this incident her mother doesn’t want to keep Nisha with her. In order to support her with basic needs and to give continuation to her study she has been enrolled to happy home.
